YAHRZEIT OF REBBE PINCHAS OF KORETZ [5766]
From last year's post: Today is Yud [the 10th day of] Elul, the yahrzeit of Rebbe Pinchas of Koretz, a talmid-chaver of the Baal Shem Tov [founder of Chassidus]. A number of years before his passing, when Yud Elul arrived, Rebbe Pinchas would fast and daven [pray] much longer than usual. He would say, "In the month of Elul, one needs to be more of a Yid [Jew]." No one understood the hint in these words, until several years later, when he passed away on Yud Elul, that he meant he had to to prepare himself for the time of meeting his Maker...
Our good friend A Simple Jew has two guest postings, from Shoshana Bershad, a descendant of Rebbe Raphael of Bershad who was Rebbe Pinchas' leading disciple:
Rebbe Pinchas of Koretz and
Shoshana (Bershad)'s addition to Rebbe Pinchas of Koretz
Finally, our friend Yrachmiel of Ascent has a wonderful story about Rebbe Pinchas, here.
